They Why Behind My Motherhood Minis

Dear Friend,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the first hints of spring (or not if you’re in Colorado…what a gloomy week it’s been!)! I wanted to jump in today and talk about WHY I decided to go all in on hosting a day for Motherhood Minis this year (I bought soooo many cute props, did a styled shoot, created a landing page annnnnd automated the process haha).

Truly, there's something almost sacred about watching a mother tuck a strand of hair behind her daughter's ear, or seeing tiny hands reach up to touch mom's face with complete adoration. These fleeting moments tell the story of one of life's most profound connections. It's these genuine interactions that inspired me to dedicate time this spring to capturing the beautiful dance between mothers and their children.

Why I'm Offering These Sessions

Motherhood is both extraordinary and ordinary - filled with grand milestones but also quiet, everyday moments that often go undocumented. As a photographer (and perhaps as a mother myself), I believe these relationships deserve to be honored through beautiful images that capture authentic connection.

These sessions aren't just about getting the "perfect" family photo. They're about creating visual memories of the bond between mothers and their children - memories that will become more precious with each passing year.

What Makes These Sessions Different

Unlike my typical family sessions, these mini sessions are primarily focused on the mother-child relationship. We'll spend our time capturing natural interactions - the way your child looks at you when you laugh, how your hands intertwine when you read together, or those spontaneous hugs that take your breath away.

I've designed these sessions to be relaxed and joyful, focusing on genuine moments rather than posed perfection. They are going to be totally documentary-style sessions with gentle prompts if you want them. And of course, other parent-figures are MORE than welcome to join, I just want to really honor and celebrate mamas. After all, most of the time we’re the one’s snapping pics of our husbands with our babies, right? (Can’t just be my family LOL).

Behind My Preparation

Over the past few weeks, I've been carefully planning these sessions. I've selected a location with beautiful, soft natural light that creates a dreamy backdrop without distracting from the connection between you and your child. There will be water elements in the background and nice big trees and green grass. We love this time of year when everything is coming alive here in Colorado! I've also curated a simple collection of neutral blankets to ensure you're comfortable while keeping the focus on your relationship. I have beautiful vintage wood blocks, other wood toys and some fun books that I will be bringing as well.

I've been practicing techniques to capture authentic moments quickly, which is perfect for younger children with shorter attention spans. My goal is to make this experience enjoyable for both you and your little ones.

Here’s some of the details for the set up - dreamy, right?! :

These motherhood mini sessions will take place on Saturday, 4/26 at Thomas Reservoir in Erie. Each 15-minute session includes 10 digital images and that you get to choose (with the option to purchase more).

If you want to learn more, or share this info with another mama who might be interested, here is a link with aaallllll of the details!

Final Thoughts

As the years pass, these photographs become more than just images - they become tangible memories of feelings, connections, and love stories. They're reminders of the little hands that once reached for yours and the way your child looked at you with complete adoration.

I'm SO looking forward to capturing these meaningful moments for mamas. If you have any questions about these sessions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Warmly,

Chelsea McDonnell
